Quote of the day 26th May 2014

"There is still a year to go, and as I have found in the Ashcroft National Poll, only around half the electorate has definitely decided which party to vote for.

"It will be a battle, but remember this. If the Conservatives can switch one in six Labour voters – two thirds of those who say they’re willing to consider the party – this picture looks very different. Start with the ones who trust the Tories on the economy and prefer David Cameron as Prime Minister."

How much did Paddy pay for his fantastic poll?

Basically,

If party A can convince the voters who would have voted for party B, not to vote for party B, but to vote for party A instead, then there is a much better chance Party A will win.

I cant really deny his findings, but its a bit like having a consultant come to a football club, paying him for 6 months to find out how to win more games, and in the end he says " the best way is to score more goals against the team you are playing, than they score against your team"

I suspect Lord Ashcroft spends quite a lot of money on the polls he has been commissioning.

He made a substantial speech to the ConHome conference, which you can easily find on his website. Inevitably the handful of words I pulled out and quoted give an incomplete and far less nuanced picture.

He work provides some good news and some bad news, and points to both warnings and opportunities, for all the major parties, but the main lesson is that there is everything to play for.
