Quote of the day 2nd May 2014

“We do not recommend that a government introduce a ceiling on rent increases”

(Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors statement yesterday responding to and disavowing Labour claims that RICS were helping the Labour party come up with a benchmark for such a policy. The RICS also said that they were contacting Labour to ask how this claim came to be included in Labour's press release for the launch of the European and Local campaign yestetday, and that rent caps such as the policy announced by Labour yesterday are "Not a solution")

Only the Labour party could come up with such a stupid idea as rent increase ceilings. Well correction the green party may buy it too.

Also look at the stink the labour party made at the fact Council tax (an unlawful tax anyway) raises were set at 2% without a referendum.
I would have liked it to be set at 0% without a referendum, but the labour party seem to think they should be allowed to raise any tax they like, by as much as they like, with out asking at all. I really cant understand that mindset.

Indeed. See the quote on rent controls today from Assar Lindbeck.

And you're right that Labour have a funny attitude to tax.

If someone else cuts tax, Labour in opposition howl with protest. If someone else increases tax, Labour in opposition howl with protest.

But when in government Labour think nothing of open tax rises, stealth tax increases, or benefit cuts which would have them screaming their heads off if implemented by any other party.
