Congratulations to Stephen Haraldsen and good luck in Copeland

Copeland Conservatives have this evening selected Councillor Stephen Haraldsen as our candidate to be MP for Copeland in the forthcoming General Election in a hundred and one day's time.

He will make an excellent candidate and, I hope, MP and will have my enthusiastic and active support.

Stephen was born and educated in the constituency at West Cumberland Hospital and Whitehaven School (now Whitehaven Academy). He works at Westlakes Science Park in the constituency and has represented Hillcrest ward on Copeland Borough Council since 2011. He has also been a school governor of Bransty school.

Stephen has proved himself a tireless fighter for the interests of all his constituents and the people of the borough as a Copeland councillor, and I am sure he will also be a stalwart champion for the people of Copeland if he becomes MP for the area.

Our candidate for Mayor will be selected by local party members on 23rd February.

If the electorate vote in the Labour candidate then they get what they deserve. Which would you recommend ou of this shower - Alan Holliday, Mike Hawkins or Steve Gibbons?

It is not for me to tell Labour who to pick as their candidate for mayor of Copeland.

But whoever they pick, I hope and expect that local Conservatives will give them a fight for the position.

Quote of the day 24th July 2020

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer. There's been plenty of nasty stuff on both sides but if you catch anyone of your own viewpoint  posting something like that who might listen to you, please do call them out on it - and point out that they're giving everyone on your side of the argument a bad name.
