Cutting the cost of politics in Copeland


The budget passed by the Copeland Borough Council for 2015/16 included £100,000 for the salaries of the mayor and, if he or she decides to appoint one, a political assistant.

If I become mayor, I will not be making such an appointment.

Copeland needs more money spent on front-line services and on cutting costs to residents more than it needs extra money for politicians and their assistants.

I will seek to vire the money saved by not appointing a political assistant to front-line services and reduced parking charges. I will publish a proposal for reduced parking charges in Copeland Borough Council car parks before the end of this month.

erm, this is not adding up.

recently you posted about the mayor salary being around £30k. now lets just say that that has been crushed and the mayor will £50k, and His personal assistant (That's what they are normally called) would earn around £20K

you see the problem? 50 + 20 is not 100

and 30 = 20 sure as damn it is not

unless of course the plan is to have the lowest paid mayor anywhere, earning £30K and the worlds highest paid PA who is on £70k

that would be a first, one i would also not put past copeland council

Of course it doesn't add up, Jim, when did the Labour group on Copeland Borough Council ever know how to make the sums add up?

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer.
