Kerry accuses DA'ESH of genocide against Yazidis, Christians, and Shia Muslims

AMONG campaigners for human rights and liberty of conscience, there was a moment of grim satisfaction as the America, at the last moment and against some expectations, acknowledged what many see as self-evident: Islamic State (IS) (also known by its Arabic acronym, Daesh) is perpetrating genocide against the religious minorities of Iraq, including the region’s ancient Christian communities. The key paragraph in a statement by John Kerry, the Secretary of State, spelled this out:
"My purpose in appearing before you today is to assert that, in my judgment, Daesh is responsible for genocide against groups in areas under its control, including Yazidis, Christians and Shia Muslims. Daesh is genocidal by self-proclamation, by ideology and by actions - in what it says, what it believes, and what it does. Daesh is also responsible for crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing directed against these same groups and in some cases also against Sunni Muslims, Kurds and other minorities."

The above comes from an article in The Economist which you can read in full here.
