POLLS NOW OPEN IN LOCAL ELECTIONS

Polls are now open, from 7am to 10pm today for County Council elections in Cumbria and in other local elections throughout England.

There are nearly 2,400 positions being elected, including the first elections for six new combined authority mayors created under devolution arrangements.

Elections are taking place in county, unitary and metropolitan councils and for local council mayors in Doncaster and North Tyneside.

Almost every seat is being contested including all 84 in Cumbria, although the Conservatives are the only party fighting all 84 seats in Cumbria.

I am standing in the "Egremont North and St Bees" division which includes St Bees, Bigrigg, Moor Row, the western part of the Mirehouse area of Whitehaven, Rottington, Woodend, and the surrounding countryside.

(Despite the name the division does not include any of the actual town of Egremont itself, though much of the area is part of the "Egremont North" ward of Copeland Borough Council.)

Good luck to all candidates.
